Happy 4th {one day late}

4th of July,
birthday,
gratitude
Yesterday morning I went for a run, and as I huffed and heaved like a Clydesdale, sweat streaming from temples to toes, I thought about gratitude the whole hot way.
I was grateful for the runners and bikers who shouted out their own sweaty greetings as we passed each other on the path.
I was grateful for my 42-year-old body that, while not exactly graceful, could carry me through four miles with hardly an ache.
I was grateful for my two boys, so excited for fireworks they'd leapt out of bed in a flurry of chatter at 7 a.m.
I was grateful for my husband, who, while I ran, was making my favorite birthday cake (a Harvey Wallbanger -- the cake my mother-in-law always made for all of our birthdays) from scratch.
And I thought about you, too, because I am so, so grateful for you. For your companionship as we walk through this mysterious journey of faith. For your support, encouragement and love during the times I falter. For the fact that you keep showing up here, even when I write rambling, 42-year-old birthday posts.
Thank you, every one of you, for being a light in my life. You are a gift.
{Come back tomorrow for Graceful Summer? Link up a story of your own slow summer moment?}

Happy birthday to you. Such a wonderful grateful list. You are a gift to me.
I'll think of you this morning as I run three miles with sweat dripping in my eyes...
Happy Birthday, Michelle.
No running here. But lots of gratitude for you. Happy birthday! Happy 4th!

Happy belated birthday to you, Michelle!
Happy Birthday, sweet friend.
I went for a run yesterday, too. I'm even slower than usual in the heat, but I'm determined to stick with it until it gets nice and cool again.
Happy Birthday, Michelle! I am grateful that you share so much beauty with all of us. And now, I have to ask, what is a Harvey Wallbanger cake?
It's like a citrus rum cake - super moist and dense and delish!
Oh my gosh, I am SO slow - like the last drip of molasses draining from the bottom of the jar. But it's still exercise, right?
Thanks for the bday wishes...
Thanks, lovely lady!
Happy Birthday!
Thank you - it was a joyful day!
Thank you, Donna - you are so sweet!
Thanks, Joe - I always love seeing your guy face around here! :)
I will, promise. I'll post it in the comments here before the night is out!
Likewise, Lovely. And I've worn my beautiful necklace 3 days in a row!!
Happy birthday Michelle! I don't know if I am just completely non-observant (which is true) or you changed your picture recently, but LOVE it!! You look beautiful!

Alrighty, here is the recipe, as promised: {it's wicked unhealthy...but SO luscious!}
Janice's Harvey Wallbanger Cake
1 package yellow cake mix
1 package instant vanilla pudding
1 cup cooking oil
4 eggs
3/4 cup orange juice
1/2 cup rum or vodka
Mix together and beat 4 minutes on medium-high. Pour batter into a well-greased and floured bundt pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes.
I typed up the recipe and included it in the comments below, in case you want to taste for yourself!
Happy Birthday, Michelle...wishing you many more happy runs, and birthday cakes...appreciate you!
Hope the day was a good one, Michelle. I'm catching up on my blog reading this afternoon and find your post about gratitude very timely.
Here's a neat article about how one person incorporated a Mincha Moment her day ...
